Progress Energy was created in 2012 upon the amalgamation of PETRONAS Carigali Ltd. and Progress Energy Resources Corp.

On December 12, 2012, Progress Energy was acquired by PETRONAS, Malaysia’s national oil company, for approximately C$6 billion. Progress Energy is a Canadian company, operating under Canadian regulations and standards. This is not a foreign company, rather a company with foreign investment.

Progress Energy Resources Corp. shares previously traded on the TSX under the symbol PRQ, but following the PETRONAS acquisition, were delisted as of December 17, 2012.
