Progress Energy evalutes source water options and uses water from sources with consideration for the impact on the environment and surrounding ecosystems. Potential water sources that have been evaluated include:
- Flowback or produced water
- Surface runoff water capture
- River or lake withdrawal
- Non-saline groundwater
- Deep saline groundwater
- Waste water
Progress water facts:
- We recycle and reuse a significant portion of the produced water from our fracing processes, which now accounts for more than 20 per cent of all water requirements
- We capture water run-off in storage ponds during spring peak flows, which supplies water for a good amount of our operations for the balance of the year
- We are exploring the use of deep saline water sources for fracing
- We employ technological advances and industry best practices to ensure we are being as efficient as possible with water use
