Optimizing Our Water Use

Progress Energy evalutes source water options and uses water from sources with consideration for the impact on the environment and surrounding ecosystems. Potential water sources that have been evaluated include:

• Flowback or produced water
• Surface runoff water capture
• River or lake withdrawal
• Non-saline groundwater
• Deep saline groundwater
• Waste water

Progress water facts:

• We recycle and reuse a significant portion of the produced water from our fracing processes, which now accounts for more than 20 per cent of all water requirements
• We capture water run-off in storage ponds during spring peak flows, which supplies water for a good amount of our operations for the balance of the year
• We are exploring the use of deep saline water sources for fracing
• We employ technological advances and industry best practices to ensure we are being as efficient as possible with water use
